Round Window Reinforcement-Induced Changes in Intracochlear Sound Pressure

چکیده
Introduction: The round window membrane (RWM) acts as a pressure-relieving for incompressible cochlear fluid. reinforcement of the RWM has been used surgical intervention treatment superior semicircular canal dehiscence and hyperacusis. aim this study was to investigate how affects sound pressure variations in cochlea. Methods: intracochlear (ICSP) simultaneously measured scala tympani (ST) vestibuli (SV) cadaveric human temporal bones (HTBs) response acoustic stimulation three materials (soft tissue, cartilage, medical-grade silicone). Results: ICSP ST significantly increased after frequencies below 2 kHz. Between 400 600 Hz, all demonstrated highest median increase. higher stiffness, larger increase: silicone (7 dB) < soft tissue (10 cartilage (13 dB). SV less affected by reinforcement. increase 3 dB. experimental findings can be explained with numerical models mechanics. Discussion conclusions: increases at lower but only minor influence on pressure.

Intracochlear Pressure Changes due to Round Window Opening: A Model Experiment
To preserve residual hearing in cochlea implantation, the electrode design has been refined and an atraumatic insertion of the cochlea electrode has become one aspect of cochlea implant research. The opening of the round window can be assumed to be a contributing factor in an atraumatic concept. The aim of our study was to observe intracochlear pressure changes due to different opening conditio...

HYPOTHESIS Round window (RW) stimulation with a floating mass transducer (FMT) can be studied experimentally and optimized to enhance auditory transduction. BACKGROUND The FMT (MED-EL Vibrant Soundbridge) has been recently implanted in patients with refractory conductive or mixed hearing loss to stimulate the RW with varying degrees of success. The mechanics of RW stimulation with the FMT hav...
متن کاملNonlinearity in intracochlear pressure.
Nonlinearity exists in intracochlear pressure responses close to the cochlea's sensory tissue. Its characteristics are much like those of basilar membrane motion nonlinearity. Here several aspects of the pressure nonlinearity in the base of the gerbil cochlea are illustrated.
متن کاملCochlear implant electrode sealing techniques and related intracochlear pressure changes
BACKGROUND The inserted cochlear implanted electrode is covered at the site of the round window or cochleostomy to prevent infections and leakage. In a surgically hearing preservational concept, low intracochlear pressure changes are of high importance. The aim of this study was to observe intracochlear pressure changes due to different sealing techniques in a cochlear model. METHODS Cochlear...
متن کاملDifferential Intracochlear Sound Pressure Measurements in Human Temporal Bones with an Off-the-Shelf Sensor
The standard method to determine the output level of acoustic and mechanical stimulation to the inner ear is measurement of vibration response of the stapes in human cadaveric temporal bones (TBs) by laser Doppler vibrometry. However, this method is reliable only if the intact ossicular chain is stimulated. For other stimulation modes an alternative method is needed. The differential intracochl...
